Our most popular General English course. You can make rapid progress towards fluency with a course at your level, delivered to your needs. Your progress is monitored from day one and you receive regular feedback throughout your course. You will be impressed at just how quickly your confidence grows as your English language skills improve, immersed in real-life situations and interactions within a wholly English speaking environment. One-to-one home tuition with homestay in your teacher's home is the most effective way to develop language skills in a short period of time.All students have 15 hours of English tuition per week, with qualified teachers, in small classes with a maximum size of 12.
All students attend three hours of English classes during the morning on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The First Monday
All students are tested on arrival and placed into classes suitable to their level, age, gender and nationality.
First & Second Teachers
In order to expose the students to two different styles of teaching and two different English accents, each class is allocated two teachers. All students will be taught by both of their class teachers every morning. Students taking additional academic English courses including Preparation for UK Schools, Study Skills, PreUniversity English and those studying for the Cambridge and Trinity exams may also have additional teachers in the afternoons.

All teaching materials are provided and included in the cost of the course.

All of the Millfield English Language Holiday Course teachers are trained to teach English as a Foreign Language.
The Awards
All students on successfully completing the course will receive an academic report, general report and course certificate. Prizes will be awarded throughout the course to students who show outstanding progress, or whose effort in sports or competitions is exceptional. There is a daily Top Banana award given to the best student of the day and the ultimate prize is Best Boy/Girl. Students are also rewarded for completing their Course and Vocabulary Organiser.
Educational Assessments for Young Learners (Optional)
Suitable for students with undiagnosed learning difficulties and/or those hoping to attend a UK or English speaking school. All assessments are conducted by qualified staff, all are confidential and will include recommendations for action.
Trinity Examinations (summer courses only)
This is an opportunity to gain a qualification which is recognised and accepted by many international schools and universities all over the world. The exam is available at the end of week 3 and week 6. Students may get some extra help to prepare for this during Club Time. Senior students may also attend an optional Academic Club on Sunday mornings.
Course & Vocabulary Organiser
Each student will receive a Course and Vocabulary Organiser, written by Mark Greenow, which is an essential part of the academic programme and used in every lesson. It is a "thinking notebook" with sections for each part of the English learning experience. It also includes a diary, which students are encouraged to complete, a mini-dictionary and poly pockets for storing postcards, class copies etc. making each student's learning experience unique.
English Mentors
Young mentors guide, support and help international students to develop friendships
and model native spoken English. They are residential and take part in all lessons, activities, excursions and social events.
